This program was developed for the purpose of estimating the savings possible by choosing to use twenty foot lengths of electrical metallic tubing (EMT) in lieu of ten foot lengths. It is NOT for estimating the cost of installation of a conduit, it is merely for comparison. We recognize that twenty foot lengths are not appropriate for all areas of a project and estimated savings are for only those areas where the longer lengths would be appropriate. Straps and elbows are neglected because they would be the same for each run and would only complicate the calculation. We assumed a 10% labor saving for the 20 foot length for handling and moving the conduit. The balance of the savings is from eliminating the couplings, both material and labor costs. Besides the length, the savings are driven by the type of coupling and the cost of labor. Other factors such as supervision and sales tax are also resultant savings. Instructions and
